Dean Proctor is an architect, urban designer, and graphic communicator with a passion for deepening the human experience, telling stories, and connecting people to place, others, and themselves. Dean has more that thirty years of professional experience in architecture, urban design, and planning as well as years of teaching, traveling, and volunteering.
Registered as an architect in 1984, Dean has continued his architectural design work while enriching that effort with studies of cultural geography, environmental perception, urban garden design, and historic preservation; with urban design, landscape design, interpretive features and exhibit design, redevelopment, and planning; and, with creating visions for rejuvenated places with hand-drawn eye-level and bird’s eye perspectives.
Dean brings this life of education, professional experience, and life experiences to his work today. He collaborates with his peers and with artists, engineers, and exhibit and lighting designers. He listens to stakeholders as well as utilizes his drawing talent to inspire and envision new places.
Dean thinks at a visionary and eye level, focuses on projects that integrate art and interpretation, and designs meaningful projects. He designs public spaces that bring people together, settings for public art, interpretive projects that tell stories and inspire, and healing spaces that support the human spirit
"I feel moved by weathered, human-created elements in natural settings, at both large and very intimate scales. When experiencing this, I feel "a part of it all" and sense the unity of creative humans and 'all that is' in nature."
